A citrus tree where foliage, fragrance and fruit become part of the composition.

The variegated lemon brings together the visual character of ornamental foliage with the seasonal rhythm of a fruiting tree. Its leaves carry variegated markings, while fragrant flowers can appear alongside developing fruit — sometimes allowing flowers and fruit to exist on the tree at the same time.

Citrus has travelled with human cultivation for centuries, moving between gardens, orchards and domestic spaces. Here, it becomes both a living plant and a sensory presence: something to see, smell and eventually harvest.

A note on this piece
The ceramic pot has a fine hairline crack that does not affect its structural integrity or the health of the plant. The piece has therefore been specially priced to reflect this cosmetic imperfection.

Care

  • Light: Full sun; aim for at least 6 hours of direct sunlight each day for strong growth and fruit production.
  • Water: Keep the growing medium lightly moist during active growth. Allow the surface to partially dry before watering again.
  • Drainage: Always use a pot with drainage holes. Never allow the roots to sit in stagnant water.
  • Humidity: Citrus benefits from higher humidity than a typical dry indoor environment.
  • Temperature: Prefers warm conditions; protect from cold draughts and sudden temperature changes.
  • Feeding: Use a citrus fertiliser during active growth. A nitrogen-rich feed is useful from spring to mid-summer, followed by a more balanced feed later in the season.
  • Pruning: Remove dead or damaged growth and shorten overly vigorous shoots when necessary.
  • Repotting: Repot when root growth requires it, preferably in late spring; avoid moving into a disproportionately large container.

Pet safety: ⚠️ Toxic to dogs and cats. ASPCA lists lemon/citrus plants among those that can be harmful to pets.
